Imagine yourself on a beautiful beach. Feel the warmth of the sun on your face as you look up at the clearest of blue skies, a seagull floats lazily on the gentle breeze high up in the air. You close your eyes and take a big cleansing breath in, catching the smell of salt brought in from the sea. Simply enjoying the warmth of the sun on your face and breathing in the fresh sea air. You notice your shoulders sinking down as you breathe out gently, letting the warmth of the sun melt away any tension.

Becoming aware of the sound of the waves gently lapping on the shore, you open your eyes and decide to walk lazily towards the water’s edge. Feeling the sand warm between your toes as you’re making your way to the shoreline. The sand becomes a darker golden colour when you get there and you enjoy the change to a moist, firm coolness beneath your feet as you stroll along the shore, leaving a lazy trail of footprints in the sand behind you. Every once in a while, a larger than usual wave will wash coolly over your feet and you instinctively know that these waves are here to wash away all your fears and worries. With every single step and every cleansing wave you are feeling more and more at ease and comfortable.

What is a happy place?

A happy place is very personal. It is a place that you can visit whenever you need it and whenever you want it. It’s where all your stress and worries melt away. A place of comfort and healing, where you can be yourself without judgement.

Everyone has their own happy place that is specific to what makes them happy. It can change as your life changes. Mine is different today compared to the one I had as a teenager. I can still visit the old one if I wish, it’s still there and knowing that, still provides me comfort. However, life moves on and so do my worries and emotions, that’s why my happy place is different now. It provides me with the comfort I need today.
